    Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc. (“Ferrara”), a leading custom fire apparatus and rescue vehicle manufacturer that engineers and manufactures vehicles for municipal and industrial customers. The Ferrara product portfolio includes multiple fire apparatus configurations tailored to the specific requirements and demands of the fire service industry – including custom-builds on their own chassis as well as solutions on commercially available chassis such as Freightliner and International. This acquisition enhances REV’s product offering in its Fire Group within its Fire & Emergency segment, particularly with custom chassis pumpers, aerials and industrial apparatus.


    As a designer at Ferrara you will be responsible for design of mechanical components and systems, working with and through Design Engineers to meet customer and sales product requirements.  Core designs consist of pump modules, plumbing assemblies, custom piping, and integration of new product into existing designs.  Extreme attention to detail, producing defect-free design packages within the specified schedule. Support production during vehicle build phase. Support Field Service organization when vehicle is in service.  The Designer at Ferrara is relied upon by other employees and customers for technical guidance and support.


    • Creation or changing mechanical and/or electrical components and systems used on Fire Apparatus.
    • Creation of drawings to be used to manufacture components. Knowledge and practical use of drawing and drafting standards is important. Knowledge of manufacturing processes with emphasis on metal fabrication / assemblies will be needed.
    • Creation and management of indented Bills of Materials (BOM) in adherence to company standards.
    • Manufacturing support to ensure quality and schedule commitments are met.
    • Fulfillment of customer requirements (i.e. quotes, shop orders) taking into consideration design rules and all applicable interface points. Hold cross-functional design reviews as appropriate to solicit input to deliver a robust design that is producible, avoids interferences and meets all industry and company requirements.
    • Participation in customer meetings to understand design requirements and answer questions regarding product design parameters and/or limitations.
    • Engineering change management through established processes and documentation.
    • Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production or customer requirements.


    • Associate Degree in an Engineering Field or equivalent experience
    • Proficiency in CAD systems – Autodesk Inventor and/or Auto CAD
    • Minimum of 2 years general design work experience
    • Useful skills:
      • Knowledge of NFPA standards related to Fire Apparatus is not required but will be beneficial
      • Awareness and familiarization of regulatory standards – NFPA, DOT, ULC etc.
      • Knowledge and use of lean principles as they apply to manufacturing and business processes

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
